Squircles Blue Cross bespoke glass wall art – contemporary glassware hand made in Ireland by Keith Sheppard Glass Artistry
Hand crafted Irish glassware using high quality Bullseye architectural fused glass.
This wall art is made using advanced techniques.
Re-cycled from selected glass ‘off cuts’ from four glass blocks which were used for making ‘drop out’ vases, the recycled glass is reshaped and cold worked (ground, cut and polished) to form the cross, and then fired at full fuse temperature in the kiln.
The firing cycle takes approximately 36 hours.
The cross is then again ‘cold worked’ and re-fired using the same firing cycle to remove any imperfections.
The glass backing panel (blue) is cut and shaped by hand.
The backing panel of glass is also full fused in the kiln again over a period of 36 hours, after which the backing panel is re-fired in the kiln at a lower temperature infused with copper on the underside.
The copper reacts with the mineral content of the glass which presents a fantastic random patternation - see the close up photograph.
Stainless steel rods are used to offset the blue cross from the backing panel.
This wall art panel can be wall mounted with production made, satin finished aluminium edge panel supports which provide an easy method to wall mount the glass panel.
Each piece of wall art is a unique, one-of-a-kind, in its design and colourations, bespoke craftsmanship and attention to detail.
The finished piece is also engraved with my name and year date of production.
This is a substantial piece of glass.
