Streaky White and Salmon Pink Rosea Fluctus Eclipse glass vase vessel – contemporary glassware hand made in Ireland by Keith Sheppard Glass Artistry
Part of the ‘Scandza’ Collection.
High Quality ‘Bullseye’ streaky white and salmon pink, architectural fused glass.
The vessel is made using the drop out method of production. A selection of sheet glass is cut and stacked together forming a block of glass.
The design element is incorporated into the block of glass using different coloured opal glass.
The block of glass is ‘dammed’ in the kiln, using kiln furniture and fibre paper to ensure the block of glass retains its shape and can be easily removed from the kiln.
The kiln is then fired at full fuse temperature and this process takes approximately 48 hours.
Once cooled, the block of glass is cleaned and ‘cold worked’ (grinding and polishing) prior to the second stage firing in the kiln.
The block of glass is then suspended in the kiln on ceramic pillars and a circular former.
The glass is re-fired and gravity forces the glass through the ceramic former to produce the vessel – this process must be monitored closely to prevent ending with a puddle of glass on the bottom of the kiln.
Once cooled, the original glass block is removed with a diamond saw and then ‘cold worked’, grinding and polishing the top edge.
Each vessel is unique in its colourations, bespoke craftsmanship and attention to detail which elevates its desirability.
Although a lovely piece of glass art in its own right it’s also a functional bowl.
